Medvet New Albany is an ER clinic where emergency surgeries are performed.   4th year veterinary students will be paired with a clinician and able to follow them into rooms to hear client conversations, assist in diagnostics and surgeries, discuss problem lists, diagnostics, and treatment plans.  

U of I Dermatology Rotation 

Diseases affecting the skin and ears are visible to owners and a common source of distress for animals and their owners. Indeed, skin and ear diseases are the most common reasons for pet owners to seek veterinary care. Because many skin diseases have similar clinical appearances it is important to develop a systematic approach to dermatology cases. The emphasis on this rotation is primary level care of dermatology patients—teaching rounds focus on topical therapy, management of allergies (food and environmental), ectoparasites, bacterial skin infections, dermatophyte infections (including zoonotic concerns), immune‐mediated skin diseases, and diseases of the ear. Students are actively involved in performing basic diagnostic procedures including cytology, skin scrapings and skin biopsies. Principles of treatment and the importance of client education are discussed in detail. The majority of cases are outpatients. Cases are received Monday‐Friday. Year 3‐4 veterinary students are involved in all aspects of case management including history taking, physical examinations, discussions of differential diagnosis, diagnostic procedures, discussions of treatment options and writing of discharge instructions.

General practice hospital with 65% cat/dog and 35% exotic pets.  Exotic includes avian, reptile, small mammal, and non traditional species including native wildlife.  Students will have opportunities to work with local cat rescues, pet stores, and potentially local wildlife and wildlife rehabbers (as needed).  Due to the variety of species seen, cannot guarantee any one species will be seen on a given 2 week rotation.  Students without any exotic experience will be encouraged to learn the basics and will be given opportunities to interact with them.  Will try to expose students to working up cases in general practice as they prepare for starting their career.

• Our 10-doctor mixed animal practice treats patients ranging from cats and dogs to rabbits.
• Veterinary externs at will spend time on client communication, engagement and proper medical documentation. They will be involved with  exams, treatments, surgery and dental.

We are a mixed animal, general practice that does handle emergency surgery when needed. We have 3 veterinarians, 2 of whom are surgeons. We see about 25 patient appointments per day in the clinic, and 3-5 outside of the clinic, along with 2-3 surgeries/procedures. We pride ourselves in making the time spent in the veterinary office as easy as it can be.

Keeping Pets & People Together Fund We created an in-house fund to help families cover unexpected veterinary medical costs to prevent economic euthanasia or surrender to shelters.

Our veterinarians provide a number of services in an ambulatory setting.  Services include wellness care, such as physical exams, pre-purchase exams, performance evaluations, lameness exams and vaccinations.  Acupuncture and chiropractic services are also provided.  Advanced diagnostic imaging, such as ultrasonography, digital radiography, and endoscopy are available, as well as shock wave, regenerative laser and FES therapies. 

WHO ARE WE?

Pet Wow is an independently owned small animal practice located in Northern Kentucky, 10 minutes from Cincinnati, and only a 15-minutes from CVG Airport!  We have been proudly serving the Greater Cincinnati area for 54 years and we have two practices; one located in Highland Heights, Ky, and one in Florence, Ky.  We also provide daily mobile services where we see our clients at their homes in one of our fully outfitted Mobile Vehicles.  We have a Customer Care Center that handles most customer communication and scheduling, AND we offer full Pet Grooming services at both locations. 

Our founder, Dr. Raymond D. Stamper, started Pet Wow in 1971, he was one of 10 children born to an Appalachian coal mining family. He was the only child to attend and graduate college. 

Dr. Stamper worked tirelessly to achieve success and build a name in the community, but mainly to provide for his family. He tragically passed in 2001, and the handling of the practice fell directly to his sons, Ray, Shandon, and Aaron. 

With Ray operating as CEO, Shandon operating as CIO, Aaron following in his father’s footsteps and attending veterinary school, plus the support of a great team, they managed to successfully run, and even better, GROW the practice!

PROGRAM INTENT:

At our practice, we are deeply committed to supporting the next generation of veterinarians and giving back to the veterinary industry. Our externship program is thoughtfully designed, backed by research and feedback from recent graduates, practicing veterinarians, and veterinary students across the country.

We’ve crafted a well-rounded experience that emphasizes patient advocacy, client communication, technical skills, surgical expertise, and business fundamentals. Students will gain extensive hands-on experience in a dynamic environment. As a trusted provider of veterinary care to over 20,000 pet owners and a proud partner of the Stray Animal Adoption Program—one of the largest rescues in the U.S.—we handle a significant and diverse caseload. Each week, we care for approximately 850 pets, welcome an average of 83 new clients, manage 160 medical cases, 6–12 emergency cases, perform around 60 spays and neuters, 15–20 soft tissue surgeries, and 5–10 orthopedic surgeries.

Our team of seven exceptional doctors, including three with over 25 years of tenure—one of whom has been with us for nearly 40 years—offers unparalleled mentorship and a wealth of experience. Their dedication to teaching and passion for veterinary medicine create an inspiring learning environment.

We are a busy private practice that works with canines and felines. We are located in rural Contoocook, NH. Interns assist veterinarians with: routine exams, vaccinations, sick appointments, blood draws, monitor anesthesia and surgeries. Also assist in laboratory, surgical prep and radiographs. Interns learn from the primary veterinarian, who is also the owner of the hospital. Interns also have the opportunity to assist other veterinarians on surgical days.
