At Pet Community Center, we believe every pet deserves access to high-quality, affordable veterinary care, and we work hard to make that possible for all pets in our community. Pet Community Center is a non-profit veterinary clinic and is dedicated to strengthening the human-animal bond through accessible veterinary care and support services. Pet Community Center provides low-cost, high-quality care and offers spay/neuter surgery, in-clinic wellness services, and community outreach services. We are considered a HQHVSN (high-quality, high-volume, spay/neuter) Clinic as a member of the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance and partner closely with Nashville’s Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC). PCC also participates in the Pet’s for Life Program founded by the Humane Society of the United States, and we operate an independent Community Cat (Trap, Neuter Return) Program. 

The student will experience our wellness clinic which consists of physical exams, vaccinations, heartworm testing, FeLV/FIV testing, microchips, and dispensing parasite preventatives. The student will also observe surgery rechecks, heartworm treatment with melarsomine, and occasional sick visits (we do not see public animals for sick/injured visits, however we will assess Pets For Life pets and community cats for illness/injury).

The student will also experience our surgery clinic while at PCC. This will include preoperative examinations of all surgery patients, premedication/induction/intubation of surgery patients, IV catheter placement, and mentorship on HQHVSN surgery techniques. The student will be allowed to perform surgery under the supervision of the Medical Director. The student will become familiar with our TNR/community cat program as they are a large portion of our surgery patients.

We strive to educate our students on the importance of HQHVSN programs. We hope they leave with an understanding that our work decreases animal overpopulation, improves the quality of life of both our patients and their families, and increases access to care for underserved populations.

Students are exposed to shelter medicine from veterinary perspective. They will able to learn how the structure is set and how each individual employee and volunteers make up the organization and working together. 

Students will get opportunities to do intake exams after training with a shelter veterinarian, working closely with a veterinarian at most times. Students can also shadow HVHQ spay/neuter surgeries and/or dental procedures. 

Visiting veterinary students will be immersed in a collaborative learning environment consisting of multiple facets including the DoDs veterinary pathology residency training program, the Joint Pathology Center (JPC) case consultation service and extramural research. While here, students will be attending various pathology residency classes (general pathology, systemic pathology, gross pathology), participating in book club , journal club and Wednesday slide conferences, as well as receiving, trimming, evaluating and reporting their own pathology cases.

Turning Point Vet is an integrative veterinary practice that specializes in acupuncture, chiropractic and rehabilitation. We are a mobile practice serving predominantly horses and a small amount of show livestock. Students will take part in ambulatory daily activities evaluating horses for subtle performance issues, weakness and helping make plans after injury. This is a single doctor with one assistant and will provide plenty of hands-on experience that will provide a better understanding of when integrative therapies are appropriate and how they are used. 

Student will shadow specialists in areas of their choosing.  Based on specialist comfort level and student competency, permission may be given to partake in hands-on procedures (joint taps, e-tube placement, IV catheter placement, etc.).  Student will attend morning transfer rounds between ER and specialty.

The Great Life Spay Neuter Wellness is a high quality high volume spay and neuter clinic in Kent Ohio. We provide surgeries to the community and to area animal control and rescue groups. We also provide soft tissue surgeries (enucleations, amputations, mass removals, etc) and dentistry. Our surgeons are trained in HQHVSN techniques with decades of experience. We all love teaching and mentoring new doctors. 

We also provide dentristry to area rescue groups and the community.

We have wellness clinic days two days a week to provide general exams and vaccinations to the community as well.

Chippens Hill Veterinary Hospital teaches students primary care veterinary medicine and elective soft tissue surgery and dentistry.  We also commpliment western medicine with veterinary acupuncture, chinese herbal therapy, class IV laser therapy, and spinal manipulative therapy.
