Description of Elective Experience

The Postgraduate Essentials in Animal Chiropractic Course is designed as continuing education for chiropractors and veterinarians. The curriculum meets the standard of education put forth by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA), the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA) and the Kansas Board of Regents. Its purpose is to provide exceptional education in Animal Chiropractic to ensure that its graduates can practice with the highest Standard of Care.

  • The course curriculum consists of at least 210 hours. A minimum of 135 hours are lecture and a minimum of 75 hours are is hands on. For curriculum details please see below.

Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic is a self-standing, fully self-contained building with climate controlled barn, kennel and arena, two large classrooms, an osteological specimen room equipped for dissection and specimen preparation, a library and study center, a book store, and a functioning clinic.

We have both Veterinarians and Chiropractors on staff who also have their own practices in animal chiropractic.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Written Examinations – Students are tested each module on material covered in the previous modules. A final examination is taken on the last day of classes. 

Practical Examinations – Students are tested on their application of the basic animal chiropractic adjusting techniques taught at the previous module. A final examination is taken on the last day of classes. 

Homework Case Reports – At the beginning of each of the second through fifth modules each student is to hand in home study reports. These reports should detail all aspects of an animal chiropractic case that they are managing at home. If the student fails to turn in all homework assignments then they will not receive a certificate of completion. Text Book Reading Assignments – Each module the students are given reading assignments from required texts. These readings are required and tested for on the next examinations.

The course consists of five (5), four and one half (4½) day sessions (Wednesday thru Sunday) spread over a period of five months.  Each day starts at 8 am and finishes up at 6:30 pm except for Sunday when it ends by 12 noon.  We also have a 5 week summer class that is the same class days but 5 weeks straight.
