Description of Elective Experience

Animal Care Mobile is a mixed animal single doctor practice located in Millersport, Ohio approximately 40 minutes east of Columbus, OH. The practice sees approximately 80% small animal species (cats & dogs) and 20% large animal species (goats, cattle, horses, etc). The practice is majority mobile/ambulatory in nature providing wellness/preventative care, urgent/sick care, and hospice/euthanasia services. 1-2 days per month the practice performs routine surgeries in a clinic setting (spay/neuter, dentals, mass removals, etc) with the assistance of a registered veterinary technician.

 

 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Animal Care Mobile mainly operates in home/on farm out of an equipped truck with a Bowie unit. 1-2 days per month surgeries are performed in a clinic setting with a RVT.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Open clinic hours are M/T/Th/F 10am-5pm. Students are expected to arrive by 9-9:30am to allow for travel to the first call of the day. Students can participate in conducting physical exams, formulating differentials, practicing venipuncture, and giving treatments under veterinary supervision. Students may be present for euthanasia(s) depending on owner preference and student comfort level. Students may be able to participate in surgery days if scheduled during the rotation dates. Students are encouraged to ask questions and practice skills in a one-on-one setting with direct mentorship.
