Hobart Animal Clinic is a high-volume, 24-hour emergency and general practice hybrid. The clinic operates as a walk-in–only facility during daytime hours and transitions to emergency services overnight and on weekends. Our caseload is diverse and includes everything from routine wellness care and vaccines to orthopedic cases and advanced soft-tissue surgeries.
With 7–8 veterinarians on staff during daytime hours, students have access to a wide range of experienced doctors who provide daily guidance and mentorship. The clinic is fully equipped with digital and dental radiography, endoscopy, orthopedic surgery capabilities (including fracture repair and TPLOs), abdominal ultrasound, echocardiography, and a broad variety of soft-tissue surgical procedures.

Students are expected to work full-time (40 hours per week) and communicate professionally with staff, clients, and doctors at all times. During the rotation, students will shadow a doctor and, based on their experience level, assist with or perform surgeries, conduct examinations, interpret diagnostics, develop treatment plans, calculate medications and fluid rates, and help strengthen the client–patient–doctor relationship.
Students will begin by observing appointments and will progressively take a more active role, including leading appointments and communicating with clients, while reviewing diagnostics and treatment plans with the supervising doctor. Students are also expected to set personal learning goals for their rotation and actively work toward achieving them during their time at Hobart Animal Clinic.
