| Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital, HI Description of Elective Experience: At our practice, we see both general wellness and emergency/urgent care appointments. Urgent care appointments can vary from ear/skin infections up to vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea and so forth. Emergency walk ins may include anything from heat stroke, bufo toxicity to hit by car. A daily schedule may include a variety of wellness, urgent care, occasional walk in emergencies and scheduled dental/surgical procedures. Case load can vary from seven to fourteen patients a day. Students will shadow and assist with case management of complex, chronic conditions including pain management cases, nerurological cases, autoimmune disease, allergies, renal disease, GI disorders, and cancer. There is a strong emphasis on personalized care plans, client communication, and viewing the patient through a whole-being lens, rather than isolated symptoms. This rotation is especially valuable for students interested in expanding their medical toolbox beyond conventional pharmacology, and for those drawn to preventative care, chronic disease management, or integrative oncology.
