Offsite Electives

We generally see a mixture of wellness/herd evaluations/annual VCPR visits and medical concerns daily for an average of about 4-5 farm visits per day serving anywhere from 10-35 patients per day. During the fall our practice does a fair amount of reproductive management, including genetic/breed planning, estrus synchronization protocols, artificial insemination, and early gestation management (ultrasound monitoring for pregnancy confirmation, estimated fetal numbers and nutrition planning)

Our student interns are paired with a DVM each shift they are in the hospital. They are able to observe and have their hands on the day to day tasks in the hospital. Students are able to shadow in appointments, surgery, dentistry and treatment. 

We are a full service small animal veterinary clinic. 

We are in the middle of breeding season. So we will be palpating, breeding, flushing, etc. 

Swine specific veterinary medical, production, and research externship

Chester Veterinary Services, LLC operates small animal general medicine that includes preventative medicine, surgery and dentistry. As an elective, any student would observe and have the opportunity to perform routine exams, injections, assist with surgery and be encouraged to evaluate sick patients and complete diagnostics then develop a treatment plan while being overseen by a senior veterinarian.

Podiatry 

Ambulatory 100% equine sports medicine practice including acupuncture. Lameness evaluations, medical emergencies and acupuncture

Under veterinary supervision, Veterinary Technician students will provide medical care to aid in the initial stabilization of injuries and provide short- to long-term care for injured turtles admitted to OTCC, with the goal of rehabilitating each turtle and releasing them back into the wild. This includes injections, bandaging, health / trauma assessments, drug calculations, nursing/monitoring sick patients, post mortems, microchipping releasable turtles. The applicant may also work directly with the public through turtle admissions and phone calls, as well as perform other tasks as assigned including helping to move into our new medical facility.
