Offsite Electives

Student will be working one on one with an emergency doctor to see cases throughout their shift. They will have opportunities for direct client communication, patient handling, physical exams, record keeping, diagnostic interpretation, surgeries, technical work, and more. 

Colony Park is an AAHA-accredited full service general practice offering medical, dental, and surgical services.  Our externs are given opportunities to assist with dentistry and surgery, and will be given the opportunity to work up cases as our patient load allows.  

General small animal practice.  We are a fully operational practice - with a full surgical suite (soft tissue and ortho), digital radiography, dental suite with rad, ultrasound, otoscopy, etc.  We also offer alternative healing options - acupuncture, herbal, chiro.

Veterinary student will ride with supervising veterinarian 4 days a week to scheduled farm visits. On those visits, the student will have the opportunity to interact with producers, collect all types of diagnostic samples, work up diagnostic cases, and make differential diagnosis lists. Student will have the opportunity to visit nucleus sow farms, multiplier sow farms, gilt multiplier nurseries and finishers, commercial sow farms and boar studs. 

assisting in completing duties for drop off for patients, patient appointments , spay , neuter and dental assist, calling and prescribing positive fecal samples. Overall completion of basic doctor duties under the supervision of an associate on site

Town and Country Veterinary Hospital is an established animal hospital out of Warren, Ohio. As one of the leading veterinary offices in the area Town and Country is able to attend to most medical needs and provide the up most care for your pets. They offer many veterinary services such as hospitalization, surgery, endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, imaging and diagnostics. I will be able to take the lead in various cases and assist/scrub in in surgeries. 

VEG’s Externship Program gives students hands-on experience in emergency medicine while working right alongside our expert emergency doctors. Students will focus on learning how to effectively communicate with clients, diagnose a variety of emergent conditions, develop emergency treatment plans and collaborate with support staff in a fast-paced environment. Animal Medical Hospital is a mixed practice veterinary hospital specialized in the good health of dogs, cats and horses. We also may attend rabbits by appointments.

We are a small 3 doctor mixed animal practice located in rural Wyoming. Our office in Kaycee is mixed animal, predominatly large animal. Our Sheridan office is strictly Equine. Depending on the time of year the case load will vary with fall being primarally preg checking, and bangs vaccinating; spring is calving (dystocia/c-sections), foaling and equine repro oriented. 

PetIQ believes that all pet parents should be able to provide necessary care for their pets. Our goal is to reach more pets that have not had access to care through meeting pet parents where they are with the preventive veterinary care they need for their pets when they need it. In this externship you will be conducting physical exams, managing minor illness case workup and treatment plans, and educating pet parents.

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate veterinary students to gain hands-on experience in preventive and wellness care at our Wellness Centers under the supervision of our employee veterinarians.

 Our Wellness Center Teams provide high quality preventive and wellness pet care services including minor medical case management including GI, Urinary, Skin, Eye and Ear minor illness case workup and treatment plans, wellness exams, diagnostic testing, vaccinations, preventive care education and treatments, microchipping and nail trims. Externship goals

Under the supervision of the employee veterinarian:

• Evaluation and management of minor illnesses in cats and dogs:  physical exam, diagnostics and treatment for GI, Urinary, Skin, Eye and Ear minor medical conditions
• Perform physical and wellness examinations, blood draws for diagnostic tests, administer vaccinations, nail trims and place microchips 
• Consult with pet owners on specific nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care recommendations based on individual needs.
• Demonstrate the ability to design appropriate pet care recommendations for each patient.
• Develop and demonstrate positive clinic team communication and working relationships
• Maintain relevant, comprehensive medical records 
• Learn and understand PetIQ medical standards ethical practices
• Attend staff training meetings 
• Other duties or functions as assigned 

Education Requirements

• 3rd or 4th year student in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree program from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school 

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of physical exam components for dogs and cats
• Understanding of minor medical conditions (GI, Urinary, Skin, Eye and Ear)
• Understanding of vaccine protocols, heartworm disease and prevention in both cats and dogs, flea and tick risks and control
• Good record keeping skills and ability to manage patient records according to relevant guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal skills 
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. 
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
