Description of Elective Experience

Daily equine ambulatory externship. Ability to go on routine and emergency calls to farms, part-time surgeon/elective case load, internal medicine specialist 1x/month visits, local opthalmologist available and a moderate-high load of dentistry. Moderate reproductive case-load especially in spring. Apartment upstairs to stay in with kitchen, washer/dryer. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

3 full time ambulatory equine veterinarians (1 chiropractic certified), 1 part-time ambulatory veterinarian, 1 part-time board certified surgeon

Access to local opthalmologist, internal medicine specialist that do appointments at our facility. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student is expected to be available 24/7 unless previously discussed during the externship. Daily hours are 8-12 hour days with the possibility of emergencies overnight. Possibility of helping with in-patient treatments, surgery scrubbing in, anesthesia, and foaling out mares. 

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

No cost. No pets. Bed, sheets, washer/dryer, fridge, microwave, stove, toaster oven, sink, bathroom/shower, heat/AC.
