Willow Run Veterinary Services, MI

Description of Elective Experience

WRVS is a completely ambulatory practice serving mainly horses and goats, with camelids, sheep, and small animals seen as needed.  We are a single doctor practice with a strong emphasis on preventive care.  Emergency services are provided for large animals around the clock.  The student will be in the truck daily seeing appointments, then assist in running lab work, restocking the truck, and assisting in client communication and follow up once we return to the office.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

There is one veterinarian and 2 assistants.  We offer reproductive ultrasound, a portable nebulizer, and equine dental equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will be in the truck Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30a.m. until 5:00p.m.  On-call emergency experience is available and encouraged.  We will get to know the student early on and see what skills/interests she has to determine how we can best utilize her during the externship.
