Description of Elective Experience

Student with be paired with emergency room and / or ICU and / or daytime practice DVMs on staff. 

Emergency surgery

routine surgery

dentistry

Ultrasound

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Equipment - anesthesia, surgical suite, dental unit and x rays, ultrasound (abdominal and echocardiogram), oxygen cage, cutting laser, therapeutic laser, endoscope. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will be scheduled 40 hours a week. 

The following will be expected (in conjunction with attending DVM)

- Examine and SOAP hospitalized cases 

- physical exams on presenting emergencies

- client communication of lab results, patient updates

- surgical assistance, suturing skin 

- restraint

- medication administration
