Description of Elective Experience

Students will be shadowing the doctors in the exam rooms and given the opportunity to take the lead during exams also.  They can develop their own treatment plan with the input of the doctor on duty.

Students will be assisting with surgical procedures under doctor supervision if time allows.

Students will be performing dental procedures under doctor supervision.

We encourage students to perform jugular blood draws and place i.v. catheters.

We encourage any and all questions.  We want our students to obtain real clinical experience during their 2 weeks with us.

At West Suburban Animal Hospital, we perform a wide variety of surgical procedures. We have one board certifited veterinarian on staff. Our veterinarians perform not only routine surgeries such as spays and neuters, but are also skilled at performing cystotomies (removal of bladder stones), foreign body removals, growth removals, eye and ear surgeries and more. Our facility is equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, EKG, Endoscopy (flexible and ridgid) and Idexx Labaratory equipment.
