West Main Veterinary Clinic, LLC, OH

Description of Elective Experience

This is a privately owned, small town, small animal general practice in NE Ohio.  We are a 3 person practice with plenty of friendly and helpful staff in a newly expanded building. The student will be on the frontlines of diagnosing and treating all animals in this busy medical and surgical practice. Two of the veterinarians do some production animal medicine after small animal hours, so there would be a possible opportunity for food animal as well.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Currently we employ 3 full-time veterinarians, 4 registered veterinary technicians and are currently training 2 more.  We also have a full staff of veterinary assistants and receptionist.  We have a full IDEXX lab, allowing for in house CBC, Chemistry, UA/sediment and most endocrine testing.  The clinic is also equipped with Zoetis Imagysts for fecal analysis and digital cytology referrals.  We like to do our workups in house to give us convenient and fast results.  We are also equipped with digital radiography and dental radiography as well.  We do surgery with a CO2 laser and also use a Class 4 laser for wounds, post-op and orthopedic health.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?
