Description of Elective Experience

Students rotate between general appointments, emergency, surgery, dentistry and internal medicine. Practice management with owners and hospital adminstrators is also available. Some doctors have externs do more shadowing, while others have them do they whole case as primary clinician while providing support and back up.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Equipment: digital radiography, ultrasound, dental radiographs (digital), two surgery suites, isolation ward, fully-equipped ICU with oxygen cages. Paperlight medical records. In-house Abaxis laboratory - CBC, chemistry, PT/PTT, UA

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Hours and days of the week vary as we are open 7 am - 11 pm Mon-Thurs and 24/7 on the weekends. However, students are never assigned an overnight shift.

Experience can be primarily shadowing if that is what the student is most comfortable with, however there is ample opportunity to practice blood draws, IV catheter placement, urine collection, fine needle aspirates, etc.

No cost - 3 bedroom apartment (above wellness clinic) 2 blocks away from main hospital. Pet friendly. Student has own bedroom (fully furnished, bedding provided), kitchen and living areas shared with interns.
