Description of Elective Experience

This elective immerses the student in a dynamic small animal private practice in a suburban demographic. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of cases including, but not limited to: 

  • Preventative care medicine
  • Dermatology
  • Imaging Diagnostics (Radiology, Ultrasound, etc.)
  • Dentistry
  • Ophthalmology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Cardiology
  • Soft-tissue Surgery
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Neurology
  • Clinical Pathology
  • Some Exotic Medicine (Rabbits, etc.)

Our facility currently employs four veterinarians and 12 support staff. 

Our equipment includes:

  • Digital Radiography
  • Digital Dental Radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Cold-Laser Therapy
  • Full Dental Suite
  • Fully-Furnished Surgery Suite
  • Laparoscopy (Laparoscopic Spays & Biopsies)
  • Video Otoscopy
  • Endoscopy
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student Responsibilities Include:

  • Schedule consists of Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Duties include receiving a complete patient history from the client, obtaining vitals, and presenting the case to the attending veterinarian
  • Shadowing during patient exams and presenting a treatment plan to the attending veterinarian
  • Scrubbing in on surgeries and procedures
  • Assisting with discharges under the guidance of attending veterinarian
