Description of Elective Experience

Student will shadow and participate in history taking for ophthalmic cases, performing an ophthalmic exam, ophthalmic diagnostic testing, lesion interpretation, differential diagnosis generation, diagnosis and treatment planning. Journal club and ocular histopathology rounds will be performed weekly.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

All ophthalmic equipment and resources will be provided by Veterinary Vision Center. Equipment includes slit lamp biomicroscope, indirect ophthalmoscopy, ocular ultrasonography, surgical operating microscope, phacoemulsification unit.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

A standard 8 hour work day, Monday - Friday, is expected.

We have on site housing. A one bedroom apartment with full shower is available for externs.
