Description of Elective Experience

Our hospital is a private referral surgery practice.  Student will shadow appointments with surgeons, assist in exams, scrub and assist with surgical procedures.  Reading and preparing for the cases scheduled for the following day is necessary.  There are two board-certified surgeons present in the clinic and one board-eligible surgeon.  Student can spend time with any of the surgeons on the staff during rotation.

Two board certified surgeons, one board-eligible (phase 2 upcoming) surgeon, and a staff of 8 licensed technicians and multiple assistants.  Hospital has digital radiography and student can have access to surgical text library and journals.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student is expected to be present from 7:30am to 4-5pm Monday - Thursday.  Friday morning appointment schedule is also available if student is able to shadow during this time.
