Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group (VERG) is a progressive, state-of-the-art emergency and referral hospital in the trendy Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. Along with our VERG South location in the Marine Park section, we accept referrals from over 400 local practices throughout the tri-state area, which provides us with diverse and interesting cases. Our caseload has grown to the point we are now located at a new, 12,500 square foot facility less than a mile from our current location.
Specialty services include Surgery (General, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery), Internal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Dermatology. Our support staff consists of an amazing group of highly skilled and trained technicians and assistants. Our facility is equipped with digital x-ray and fluoroscopy, dedicated Philips abdominal and cardiac ultrasound units, endoscopy, cystoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, thoracoscopy, and MRI. The new hospital will additionally be equipped with a Toshiba 64 slice CT and an upgraded Siemens 1.5T MRI.
Externs are expected to participate 5 out of 7 days per week for a total of 40 hours and may include weekends. Externs rotate through the various specialties as well as the emergency service. Externs may elect to rotate through specific services as well. The extern will be involved in rounds, appointments, diagnostic, and treatment plans. Externs will be expected to attend staff lectures and journal club when applicable. Externs are expected to actively participate in rounds, appointments, and developing diagnostic and treatment plans. Interpretation of labwork, radiographs, CT, MR, ultrasounds, etc. are also expected.
