Description of Elective Experience

Student will observe surgery, small animal appointments and farm calls.  Small animal appointments will include, wellness, sick, new puppy/kitten, acupuncture, cold therapy laser and chiropractics.  Farm calls will include, equine acupuncture and chiropractics, farm animal wellness and sick visits, and small animal home visits.  All observations will be based on what is scheduled the week the student is here.  

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 2 surgery monitors, small animal dental machine, dental xray, xray, Idexx in-house analyzers for blood and urine, ultrasound and 3 cold therapy lasers.  

We employ 3 full time vets, 2 part time vets, 3 RVTs, 2 CSRs, 2 hospital assistants, a Practice Manager and a handful of Vet. Assistants.  

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will be here 8am-6pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 8am-5pm Tuesday and Thursday.  We expect the student to observe and shadow at Veterinarian.  The student will be allowed to go on farm calls if they arise, and can attempt to diagnose, offer diagnostics and treatments to what they see in appointments.
