The Vet Clinic of Palm Harbor, FL

Description of Elective Experience

Usually when we have Vet students come through, we have them rotate through our 4 doctors where they can learn different styles of communication despite us having very similar ways of practicing. We also have them rotate through surgery and dentistry. We intend the student mostly observe during examination rooms and then conversation and case workup takes place together after stepping away from the client. We discussed diagnostic results together and will have random moments of impromptu quiz questions etc.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 4 FTE veterinarians and  ~15 support team members; Many of which are CVTs; we have onsite DR for radiographic imaging; on site ultrasound; have traveling surgeons, cardiologist and internal medicine specialist as needed

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We usually have them mirror our doctors schedule which is 35-40 hours per week; 4 days; Likely mostly shadowing/observational however helping we will at times offer vet students to assist with suturing, intubating, scrubbing in for sterile procedures
