Description of Elective Experience

During the course of the student's time with Unleashed Veterinary Dermatology. They will learn to determine the best way to test for and diagnose a number of diseases including but not limited to: Immune mediated diseases, environmental vs food related allergies, bacterial vs. fungal infections, endocrine disorders and conditions caused by ectoparasites. Options for treatment and testing that the student will learn about are as followed:  Allergy testing, Biopsies, Cultures, Dermal Microabrasion, Otoscopy, Skin scrapings, Genetic testing, Endocrine evaluation, Food allergy evaluation, Immunotherapy, Laser surgery, Phototherapy, Trichoscopy. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

In addition to Dr. Falk and Dr. Layne, our staff includes four veterinary technicians, one client care coordinator, and two veterinary assistants. We are confident that the excellence of our staff transfers through to the care that we deliver.

We offer a vast variety of equipment including our state of the art C02 Laser; in house laboratory for diagnostic testing and cytology and photolaser therapy. 

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student is expected to shadow with Dr Falk for four 10-hour days (Monday-Thursday) per week. 

Appointments are scheduled by 20 minute rechecks and 40 minute consultations. 

Dr Falk will take the time how how to best explain and go over educational support with owners in regards to the pet's diagnosis. Dr Falk may ask our visiting extern to help read cytology as needed.
