Description of Elective Experience
  • Our three-doctor small animal practice exclusively treats cats and dogs. The student will help facilitate client consultations, treat patients, and have daily discussions with the veterinarians. We serve a diverse clientele and are located in urban Utah.

We have a robust staff of 8 technicians, 1 technician assistant, 4 receptionists, 3 doctors and a practice manager. We utilize a variety of equipment to assist us in our treatments including: CO2 Laser, Red Light Therapeutic Laser, Ligasure/Cautery capabilities and Separate dental/surgical suites with advanced anesthetic & monitoring equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?
  • Student will be expected to work a full 40 hour work week accommodated by four 10hr shifts scheduled between Monday-Friday.
  • Student will be responsible for assisting in most patient exams, and taking primary case responsibility when deemed appropriate
  • Student will be responsible for charting medical records and communicating medication needs with clients
  • Students will participate in daily case discussions
  • Students will be allowed to assist in surgeries
  • Students will develop diagnostic plans
  • Student will be expected to perform physical exams
