Description of Elective Experience

Students who enter the Externship Program are expected to assist the attending doctor or intern with management of hospitalized or out-patient horses including overnight care of critical cases and assistance with emergency surgeries. The students will also be exposed to all aspects of equine ambulatory medicine, and are allowed to participate in the treatment of cases based upon the individual’s knowledge base and level of experience.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Monday through Sunday 8am - 5pm and after hours assistance with treatments as necessary.

Mix between shadowing and support depending on student's level of comfort/experience.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

No Cost

Housing is private rooms above hospital with access to full kitchen, washer/dryer, Wifi, close proximity to restaurants, etc.

No Pets Allowed
