Description of Elective Experience

We are a 1 doctor 5 year old small animal practice that uses fear free protocols.  Currently we are practicing curbside medicine to ensure the safety of staff and clients.  Most communication currently is done over the phone.  We have provided externships for RVT students (1 student at a time) where they perform technical skills, history, client communication, medical record input (supervised).

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Staffing- 3 veterinary assistants, 1 RVT, 1 DVM and 2 receptionists; Equipment- digital radiography, Doppler, in house blood and urinalysis- Abaxis, ultrasonic scaler/polisher by SonMate II 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Practice is open Monday-Friday 8-6 pm.  We start seeing appointments at 9 AM.  We can have 1-2 surgical procedures per day.  Students can obtain histories, enter notes into medical records- SOAP, assess lab tests, technical skills- phlebotomy/catheter placement, drug calculations, client communication
