Description of Elective Experience

Veterinary students will participate in the day to day activities of a busy small animal practice. They will have the opportunity to work through outpatient cases with the attending veterinarian and participate in surgery and dentistry (depending on comfort level). Veterinary students will also have the opportunity to practice hands on skills, interpreting diagnostic tests, and communicating with clients. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We are an AAHA accredited 4 doctor small animal practice and have a varied case load that includes wellness care, daytime urgent care/emergency, soft tissue surgery, dentistry and oral surgery, chemotherapy, internal medicine, and ultrasound. 

We have digital x-ray (including dental), ultrasound, class 3b laser, and cautery

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Extern students can expect to spend 40-50 hours per week in the hospital. Hours are Monday- Friday 7:45 to 6:00pm. We offer a blend of shadowing and hands on experience dependent on student comfort and experience level.
