Sunny Ridge Veterinary Services LLC, OH

Description of Elective Experience

Sunny Ridge Veterinary Services is a rural mixed animal practice that provides veterinary care for the tri state area of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. We have a large demographic for equine reproduction, lameness evaluations and dentistry due to our close proximity to Mountaineer racetrack. Our small animal aspect is very busy and our typical work week includes two routine surgery days. We see occasional exotics and perform surgery on pot belly pigs and bunnies routinely.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Sunny Ridge has an in-house large animal hospital facility as well as a padded drop stall. Our large animal barn has seven stalls for in patients if needed as well as to accommodate haul in appointments. We have digital radiology, ultrasound capability and in house blood work. We have one full time Doctor and two part time Doctors as well as 7 staff members ranging from front desk reception to veterinary technicians and assistants.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Our students will be expected to be in the clinic Monday through Friday from 8 am until close of day at 5 pm. We like to make sure students get a well rounded experience alternating time between small animal appointments, surgery and farm calls.
