Description of Elective Experience

Students will be exposed to basic and referral equine reproduction cases. Thsi will include mare management forfresh, cooled and frozen semen; embryo transfer; oocyte aspirations; stallion collections and processing for fresh, cooled and frozen semen. The elective is typically 7 days per week with active case loads from 7AM to 5 pm. No emergency or after hours appointments are seen as part of the practice.

Boarded equine theriogenologist (DACT)

Boarded equine sports medicine (DAVSMR)

Multiple ultrasound units, digital radiography, full reproduction lab

4 full time veterinary assistants

3 full time barn staff

small library of representative journals and text books available. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students will be expected to be involved in case management of breeding cases in the hospital. This iwll be from ~7AM to 5 PM seven days a week. Case discussions will happen about common reproductive pathology seen during the rotation and virtually every case students will be asked how to manage this particular mare for breeding.
