Rolling Hills Veterinary Service, OH

Description of Elective Experience

We are a mixed animal veterinary hospital located in a rural area. We provide farm calls, in-office appointments, hospitalization, emergency services and surgical procedures for our patients. Students will have the opportunity to assist in a variety of treatments and types of care. We enjoy teaching and mentoring future vets and offer as much hands on as the student is comfortable doing. The student will see a vast variety of procedures on multiple different species.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Our clinic is staffed with 3 veterinarians, 5 registered technicians and a large support staff. We provide in-house labs. Large animal and small animal digital radiographs, endoscopy, laser surgery, laser therapy, among many other pieces of equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

There is no time requirments on our part, however the student must understand our "open hours" do not always mean thats when our day will begin or end due to the nature of work. With displayed proficiency a student will be able to perform procedures, assist in surgery, and perform diagnostics under supervision. Since our practice is mixed animal there is opportunity for a wide range of experiences. We want the students that come here to be able to take away important knowledge that you gain from hands on care.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

We will provide a room with a bed for students onsite. On the same level as the room there is a kitchen with a refrigerator and a microwave. There is also a 1/2 bath and plenty of space. On the lower level there is a full bath. There are restaurants and grocery stores in close proximity to the clinic as well.
