Description of Elective Experience

Rotating externship. RBVH is a 24-hour emergency and critical care facility, referral practice, general practice and house call service.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Morning rounds 7 days/week ; Library; Client Lectures, Lunch Lectures

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The students are expected to be here at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. We have doctors on premise 24/7.

Allowed:

  • Shadowing
  • Participation in Rounds
  • Restraint for procedures – at the discretion of doctor
  • Observation in the OR

Restricted:

  • Performing procedures, treatments or examinations
  • Participation in codes
  • Updating clients
  • Verbal direction to staff
  • Participation in hospital meetings other than rounds and lectures
