Description of Elective Experience

Externs are assigned to a clinician on a rotating basis every day, and are expected to participate in hospital treatments, clinic appointments, mobile appointments, night checks, and emergencies.  All of the Reata clinicians will quiz the students, and guide them through basic hands on skills.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Reata has four clinicians, four office staff, and six technicians.  DXR, ultrasound, digital endoscope, in house lab, etc are used daily.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Externs are assigned to a clinician on a rotating basis every day, and are expected to participate in hospital treatments, clinic appointments, mobile appointments, night checks, and emergencies.  All of the Reata clinicians will quiz the students, and guide them through basic hands on skills.  The office at Reata is open 8am-5pm M-F, and 8am-12pm on Saturday.  There is a clinician and a technician on call 24 hrs/day, and a surgical team on standby.  Students are expected to be hands-on (at the clinicians' discretion).
