Description of Elective Experience

Student will be assigned to a specialty doctor within each specialty the student chooses to spend time with.  Student will be involved in every aspect of the specialty, from consultation through workup to procedure and discharge.  

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

PVESC is staffed with board-certified veterinary specialists in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, Emergency and Dermatology.  Technicial staff includes VTS, LVT and Veterinary Assistants.  PVESC has a robust rotating internship and surgical internship program, and surgical residency program.  
Diagnostic and imaging equipment includes but is not limited to full inside laboratory, CT, MRI, endoscopy, arthroscopy, and more.  

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student will be expected to arrive for rounds at 7:30am Monday through Friday, and then follow their assigned specialist throughout the day.  End of day is usually around 6pm but may go later depending on specialty.  Student will have client interaction, be involved in patient examination, assessment, and plan, including work-up and procedures that may happen.  Student will also have the ability to follow exciting cases throughout the hospital based on student's interests.
