Student will participate in a variety of different aspects of a small animal veterinary clinic. Student will accompany DVM into examination rooms. Student will perform physical examinations and come up with diagnostics/treatment plans under the supervision of a DVM. Student will have the opportunity to participate in routine surgeries such as spays, neuters, and dental cleanings. Student will get to interpret cytologies, radiographs and other diagnostics with DVM. Our DVM will have medical case discussions with the student. The student will gain experience in talking to clients, explaining preventative medicine benefits such as vaccination protocols and spay/neuters. The student will have a wonderful opportunity to work and learn alongside a DVM and our experienced veterinary technician/assistant team.
We have 2 DVMs: Dr. Dhaliwal & Dr. Castaneda. Student will be primarily learning from Dr. Dhaliwal as he is our full-time veterinarian.
We have an experienced team of veterinary assistants, one who has been in the field for over 35 years and has a lot of knowledge to pass onto a young DVM, as she has done to many others. We have digital radiography machine, dental machine, anesthetic machines, Idexx bloodwork machines and a microscope, to name a few.
Student is responsible to show up to the clinic during scheduled hours in a presentable manner, ready to talk to clients and assist the DVM in their cases. As the clinic owner/manager, I will make sure the student gets the necessary number of hours needed for the externship and provide a great learning environment.
