Description of Elective Experience

Student will be exposed to General Small Animal Practice. We are appointment based with emergencies throughout the day. We are a very busy practice that handles a wide variety of case work. We perform scheduled surgeries three days a week and will do occasional emergency surgeries as the need presents. We have a large and knowledgeable help staff and four doctors - two full time and two part time.  We are not a 24 hour clinic and do not have over night staff, although some after hour emergencies are seen at doctor discretion.

Staffing:

  • Four doctors
  • Four technicians 
  • 12 veterinary assistants
  • Access to mobile veterinary ultrasound veterinarian who is used often

Equipment

  • Digital X-ray 
  • Dental X-ray
  • Surgical Suite
  • Idexx In -house blood machines

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Responsiblities of student:

  • Present for five work days 
    • Can choose Monday - Satuday.
      • Monday, Friday are 9-5 with a 2 hour scheduled lunch
      • Tuesday-Thursday are surgery days that go from 8:30am-7pm (No appointments from 12-4) (Student can go home during that time)
  • Can watch and participate in surgery with supervision
  • Can watch and participate in appointments with supervision
  • Will be asked to discuss cases, differentials, treatment plans, modified treatment plans based on owner permission.
