Our small-animal general practice offers students a dynamic, fast-paced clinical experience alongside two experienced DVM's from OSU who emphasize critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and practical problem-solving. Students will gain exposure to a diverse caseload encompassing emergency and urgent care, routine wellness examinations, preventive medicine, diagnostic evaluations, and the medical management of both straightforward and complex conditions.
Our facility is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, providing students with opportunities for hands-on experience and exposure to contemporary diagnostic and treatment modalities.
A significant component of our practice is dedicated to shelter and rescue medicine. We work closely with local animal rescue organizations and manage a broad spectrum of cases, ranging from routine spay and neuter procedures to more complex surgical interventions, including limb amputations, enucleations, and others.
One of the most valuable aspects of our clinical environment is the socioeconomic diversity of our clientele. Students will encounter cases in which clients elect comprehensive diagnostic workups and advanced treatment options, as well as situations requiring thoughtful medical decision-making within significant financial constraints. We emphasize the importance of developing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that balance medical necessity, patient welfare, prognosis, and client resources.
This experience is designed to strengthen students' clinical judgment, adaptability, diagnostic reasoning, surgical exposure, and client communication skills while demonstrating the realities of practicing high-quality veterinary medicine across a wide range of medical, surgical, and financial circumstances.
We have two DVM's from OSU on staff here, along with a well-staffed and trained technician and assistant team.
We have a full suite of diagnostic and treatment equipment including digital x-ray ,IM3 4-place dental cart, brand new Midmark dental x-ray machine, Voyant Vessel Sealer system, Vista HQ Cancer Scanner, and a full Idexx in-house lab suite in conjunction with Idexx reference labs. We use Ezyvet software. We work closely with Imaging4pets for in-house abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography. In early 2027 we will be purchasing a red-light laser therapy unit.
Our practice operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Surgical procedures are primarily scheduled during the morning hours, providing students with opportunities to observe and assist with a variety of surgical cases.
Our daily caseload includes wellness examinations, preventive care, vaccinations, diagnostic imaging, minor illnesses and injuries, and urgent care cases. We also receive overflow and referral cases from a nearby emergency veterinary hospital located approximately five minutes from our facility. Additionally, we accept emergency calls and evaluate urgent cases as they present throughout the day.
Our veterinary team consists of two Ohio State University-educated Doctors of Veterinary Medicine who provide clinical care throughout our operating week. This allows students to gain exposure to a diverse caseload, participate in clinical examinations, observe diagnostic and treatment protocols, and develop practical skills under the direct supervision of experienced veterinarians.
We also dedicate a portion of our daily schedule to several local feline rescue organizations, providing students with additional exposure to shelter medicine, infectious disease management, preventive care, and the unique medical needs of rescued animals.
We offer complete scheduling flexibility for students to fulfill their required clinical experience hours during our regular business hours. There are no restrictions on when a student may begin their clinical experience, and we are committed to providing a comprehensive, hands-on educational environment with exposure to a broad range of veterinary medical and surgical cases.
Students will be expected to, under the careful guidance of our doctors and staff, perform physical exams, chart, develop diagnostic and treatment plans, and assist in execution of said plans.
