Description of Elective Experience

We are a 50/50 mixed animal clinic.  We are a general practice that practices basic medicine and surgery and focus on preventative medicine and also provide emergency.  Externship students are allowed to help with surgeries, practice palpation and ultrasound; help perform basic treatments; help with records and consultation.  

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 2 DVMs, 1 CVT, 2 vet assistants, and 3 office staff.  We have ultrasound, digital xray, IDEXX vet test station for CBC, Chem, and UA, high speed dental unit, portable chute, in house chute system,.  

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We expect the student to be present during office hours (MTTF 7:30 am - 5 pm, W 7:30 am - 1 pm, S 8 am- 1 pm), emergencies are optional.  They will be with one of the two veterinarians at all times and will be shadowing and may be allowed to perform some surgeries and procedures under direct supervision if both parties are comfortable.  

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

The student housing is in the house of one of the veterinarians.  There are pets in the house, but are unable to take additional pets.  Food will be provided during their stay.  There is no cost to the housing.
