Okeechobee Livestock Veterinarians, LLC, FL

Description of Elective Experience

Okeechobee Livestock Veterinarians is a four doctor ambulatory large animal practice servicing mostly food animals in central and south Florida. We service primarily beef and dairy cattle but also see swine, small ruminants, horses, camelids, and exotic hoofstock.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have a small lab with a centrifuge and microscope, and we use reproductive ultrasounds in the field.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We work 5 full weekdays and are on call weeknights and weekends. Students are expected to be present with a doctor every day, to respond to as many emergencies as possible, and to be as hands-on as they are comfortable with. Students will be taught how to do procedures they are unfamiliar with and then perform the procedures themselves if opportunity permits.
