Assists veterinarian and veterinary technicians with animal intake examinations and follow up exams of admitted patients and education animal ambassadors
Assists with radiographs and lab specimen collection and interpretation of lab values
Restrains wildlife species for physical examination and treatments
Observes surgical procedures involving anesthesia of wildlife patients
Covers at minimum one four-hour shift/week on our community information line
Doses and administers medications; provides nursing care to patients
Performs weekly visual assessment of pre-release facility patients
Responsible for presenting approved research project upon completion of externship and lead two wildlife focused journal club discussions for hospital staff and volunteers
Rotates through animal husbandry areas at the education and pre-release facilities
Maintains constant focus on safe workplace practices
Develops an understanding of and adherence to federal, state and local wildlife policies
Personally commits to our Core Values and organizational policies and procedures
Performs additional duties as assigned Necessary Knowledge and Experience
Currently enrolled as a first or second year veterinary student in an accredited veterinary program Strong interest in pursuing a career in wildlife or exotic veterinary medicine
