Description of Elective Experience

Ocean Park is a hybrid zoological institution and theme park situated in Hong Kong. We have a large and diverse aquatic and terrestrial animal collection including marine mammals and giant pandas. Students will accompany veterinary staff on rounds and assist with and/or observe all clinical procedures during their placement, from clinical exams to anesthetic procedures to necropsies. When possible, hands-on duties during procedures will be assigned to students according to their aptitude. Students may be assigned reading material, projects, presentations, and data entry as appropriate.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Ocean Park employs four full-time veterinarians and several nurses. We have a large, state-of-the-art zoological medicine hospital with extensive equipment. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students are assigned 5 working days per week and roughly 8 hours per day with a lunch break. They may shadow or have hands-on responsibilities on a case-by-case basis.
