We are a GP mixed practice that services dogs, cats, horses, cattle, small ruminants, a few back yard pig operations and pet pigs, occasional pocket pets, and a few chickens. We have two small animal offices staffed by 1 to 3 DVMs each week day with support staff including licensed technicians, vet tech assistants, and CSRs. We do routine preventative health care, urgent care sick appointments, and occasional emergencies along with GP level surgeries including spay, neuter, mass removals, GI foreign body surgery, preventative gastropexies, cystotomies.
Our ambulatory service is staffed by 1 to 3 DVMs each day with 1 to 2 assistants and a CSR. We do cover emergencies after hours and weekends with the ambulatory service. We do routine herd health mostly in dairies. With horses we do routine preventative health care and basic dental floats, and emergencies. We take care of routine preventative health in pet goats. We do have a few show and breeding and solar grazing herds.
We have 8 DVMs with a spectrum of experience from 3 mo to 45 years. We have 2 licensed LVTs in our Oswego office and 4 licensed LVTs in the Pulaski office along with 3 LVTs in training. We have 5 tech assistants shared between the offices. We have a dedicated large animal CSR/manager and a vet assistant. We also have an LVT who works part time on the road.
For equipment, we have onsite lab equipment including CBC, Chem, sedivue, fecal float, and McMasters FEC equipment. We also use IDEXX and Cornell as reference labs. We have an ultrasound in each office along with 2 Eas-i-scans for cattle herd health. We have a cold laser in each office. One is large enough for horses. We have digital radiology for both small and large animal.
We have a small textbook library and subscriptions to VIN.
We typically schedule students 4 days a week from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm with the option to come on large animal emergencies on the weekends if they want. The 5th week day, they can also come in to see something that interests them or use that and their weekends to explore the area. Another option is to go with Dr. Hoskins to a local shelter to do some student driven spays or neuters.
Students will shadow our veterinarians and where possible participate in our daily work directly supervised by our DVMs.
One of our DVMs offers his house to students for free. Depending on the time of year, the student may be sharing it with the family. They move to their camp in the summer so their house is open for a student to use. There is also a very nice Airbnb about 5 miles from the Pulaski office that students often use. The have 3 different room options of different sizes and rates.
