Description of Elective Experience

New Hope Veterinary Clinic is a 4-doctor mixed-animal practice, 75% SA, 20% LA, 5% EQ in NW Illinois, two hours west of Chicago, 90 minutes south of Madison, WI. We are a very typical small-town/rural practice. We offer compassionate care for our clients and patients. We perform as much diagnostic work and treatment as possible in-house. We are able to refer orthopedic surgeries and cases in need of higher level care to clinics in Rockford, Madison, WI, and the Chicago suberbs.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We are a 4-doctor mixed-animal practice, 75% SA, 20% LA, 5% EQ. We have two CVT's on staff. We have a full in-house Idexx lab, digital radiography, GE small animal ultrasound, Reproscan large animal ultrasound, Isoflurane anesthesia, in-house large animal chute, portable large animal chute.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student can be present all hours that clinic is open, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Mon-Fri. Saturdays could be attended if desired, 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Student can observe any and all activities in clinic and on farm calls. Student will be given opportunities to open and discuss cases with clients, do physical exams, create a plan for diagnostics and therapies, for large animal and small animal cases. Students will be allowed to participate in dairy herd checks with rectal palpations and reproductive ultrasound.
