Description of Elective Experience

Student will participate in gross necropsy and histopathology of laboratory animals submitted to the Pathology Service, Division of Veterinary Resources under the direct supervision of board certified staff veterinary pathologists.

Student will participate in weekly histopathology slide conferences.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

The Pathology Service is staffed by four board certified veterinary pathologists. The service performs necropsies on approximately 3000 laboratory animals per year, including mice, rat, guinea pigs, rabbits, amphibians, fish, sheep, pigs, dogs and nonhuman primates.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Rotations range from two to eight weeks in length, five days a week from 8:30 to 5:00 pm.
