CVCA is a veterinary cardiology specialty practice that preforms cardiac workups on small animals including echocardiograms, ECGs, blood pressures and certain procedures.
CVCA is a part of Mission Pet Health is a functional hospital that is equipped with an echocardiographic ultrasound machine, supplies for ECG, taps (abdominal taps, pleural taps and paracardial taps), blood pressure and blood draws. Between appointments that cardiologists will help talk through cases, past and present, to help the student expand on their cardiac knowledge. We do have a handout booklet that is geared for students, interns and externs that has many cardiac basics along with typically treatment plans for specific diseases.
The student will be able to observe the entire cardiac workups and assist with general restraint when needed. The student typically will observe for 8 hours, 5 days a week.
