Mill Creek Veterinary Services, CA

Description of Elective Experience

Students will experience all aspect of a large herd dairy practice. You will be scheduled for herd checks 5 or 6 days a week, and often have the opportunity to participate in surgeries, dystocias, sick cows and milk lab work.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Students will get many educational opportunities and have the ability to practice first hand.  We do suggest that that students look into an ultrasound student loaner program as many of our herds use this service and the practice owned units are in high demand.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students will be expected to participate in the same daily routine as one of our vets each day of the externship.  Once scheduled duties are completed, the student can participate in emergency calls, milk lab work or other afternoon duties until the end of the work day.  Students are also encouraged to participate in overnight call with the assigned vet for each night.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

Housing includes 2 bedrooms, kitchen, shower and access to laundry service at no cost.

It is recommended that students have some mode of transportation for personal use.  Many students will rent a vehicle upon arriving in Fresno.
