Externs work with our Specialists as well as Interns, Residents, and ER doctors.  The student's time responsibilities and duties will vary depending on their specialty practice rotations.  Students are expected to actively shadow doctors.  Students are expected to observe and assist with patient appointments, communication, patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, surgery, etc.  It is our goal to provide students with as much hands-on experience as possible while externing at MVH.

Students should expect to participate in 8-hour days and a normal 40-hour week.  Other responsibilities will be discussed with the supervising clinician. Business casual dress (scrubs when appropriate) is recommended.  Professional conduct, professional communication, and a professional attitude are expected at all times during an Externship.
