Description of Elective Experience

The student will be exposed to private small animal medicine along with some exotics and pocket pets including a few skunks and pigs. We are a fast paced appointment based cozy clinic utilizing all staff to their fullest capabilities. We also take client drop offs and handle ctitical emergencies if  one happens to walk in. We run 20- 30 minute appts and have surgery on Mondays and Tuesdays. We also practice fear free.

Staff:

  • 2 doctors
  • 3 RVTs
  • 5 VAs
  • 3 reception
  • Management team 
  • On call ultrasound service for site if not referred
  • On call chiropractor for site

Equipment:

  • Digital rads, digital dental rads
  • Sx laser, therapy laser
  • tonopen, surgivet monitor, IV pumps, micrscopes
  • Acupuncture
  • Idexx lab machines
  • old but functional ultrasound
  • Cornerstone pms

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?
  • Present professional and ready to work
  • Perform exams
  • Communicate with clients and all staff
  • Work on cases devising plans, diagnosis, treatments, organization of priorities, and medical charting with support from our veterinarians
  • Particpation in surgery
  • Use software and communications internally
