We are a 24/7 ER and multi-specialty hospital focused on treatment of small animal dogs and cats. The student will shadow an experienced emergency or critical care clinician for a 10/12 hour shift. They will follow cases through the complete patient and client experience including triage, history, physical exam, treatment plans, interpreting diagnostics, observing client communication for delivery of results, discharging or admitting to hospital.
MedVet Northern Utah has an experienced team of ER, Critical Care, Surgery, Cardiology and Radiology clinicians and clinical team members. We have complete in-house labwork set up, digital x-rays, POCUS, CT, Snyder Oxygen units, Hi-Flow, and Mechanical Ventilation equipment.
The student will shadow an experienced ER or CC clinician for 10-12 hour shifts and scheduled for 3-4 shifts per week.
Below is a list of responsibilities for the student:
- Obtain accurate patient histories, shadow clinicians in exam rooms and observe interactions with clients
- Perform physical exam on patients which will be reviewed by overseeing clinician
- Attend and participate in daily hospitalized patient rounds
- Attend weekly virtual topic rounds presented by specialists
- Review and understand various case physiology and disease processes
- Interpret bloodwork and x-rays with the aid of attending clinician
- Develop treatment plan proposals
- Read a blood smear
- Observe POCUS use in ER and CC
- Help maintain medical records for cases student is involved with
