Description of Elective Experience

MedVet is a multispecialty referral hospital that treats small animals in two locations in the Greater New Orleans area. We are a part of the MedVet organization of specialty hospitals. The student will work alongside a specialist each day and participate in assessment, diagnostic testing, and will have exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care. Specialties include internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, radiology, critical care, surgery, anesthesia, rehabilitation, dermatology, medical oncology, and clinical pathology.

MedVet is a 24 hour full service specialty hospital that includes an ICU with high flow nasal oxygen and mechanical ventilator support, an onsite benchtop lab and reference lab, blood products, intermittent hemodialysis unit, fluoroscopy, video endoscopy, MRI, CT, etc. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will shadow a specialist during typical daily hours (8am - 5pm) and will participate in appointments, inpatient care, procedures, rounds, etc.
