Description of Elective Experience

The student will be involved in all phases of sea turtle rehabilitation, including stranding response, critical care medicine, diagnostics and imaging, and therapeutics. The student will also be involved in necropsies of animals that do not survive.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have a fully equiped hospital, including one full time vet, two full time CVT's, and multiple volunteers. The hospital is equiped with a digital radiography system, ultrasound, endoscopy, blood lab, and a full surgical suite.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and will be actively involved in the care of the patients in the hospital. Additional hours may be required when after-hours emergencies occur.
