Lena Veterinary Clinic, IL

Description of Elective Experience

Student will be observing our large animal practitioners on herd health visits on our dairy, beef, and swine herds.  Depending on case load he may also participate in small animal cases if the candidate is interested.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Our clinic has 6 portable ultrasound available for bovine medicine which we use extensively for reproduction & lung ultrasound procedures.  One of the ultrasounds have a wi-fi compatible screen for the student to observe ultrasound imaging in real time & also for our practitioners to observe the students ultrasound skills.  Also, we have a haul-in facility at the clinic in which we do a significant amount of chute work (ie BSE exams, vaccinations, implant, lameness exams, etc.) along with supporting lab equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

In general, the student will be expected to be available between 7am to 5 pm Monday - Friday depending on his interest level.  The student may observe on Saturdays from 8am - 2pm if intersted.
