We offer LA, SA, and Mixed animal externships. This is a LA externship. Student will be working with doctors with cattle (dairy & beef), horses, small ruminants, some camelids. Student will be assisting the veterinarian and/ or technician with medical and surgical appointmemnts with these species. We ask all students to work with all the LA species. We will allow some focus if a specific area is the goal of the externship. We allow students to plan a project while on the externship. Projects must be approved before the externship is begun by KVH.
Five veterinarians on the LA team at KVH. Three technician/assistants also no the team. We practice team veterinary medicine with collaberation. We have multiple portable ultrasound units, corded ultrasound higher power units, portable digital radiography, video endoscopy unit, vet box equipped mobile units, in hospital areas for treatment and surgery.
Veterinary students are expected to be available feve days per week. Office hours are from 7:30 am to 6 pm. We also provide after hours emergency services. We hope students will choose to participate in some after hours experience. We want students to have 2 days off per week and enjoy the northwest while they are with us.
Houseing is available only by pre-arrangement. We have standard facilities reported back as being comfortable and convenient. If multiple students are with us at a given time one may be asked to house with onr of our doctors or staff. We are conscious of environment and will do all we can to ensure a safe and pleasurable stay for each student in our care.
